Exploration and discovery have been the themes of Robert’s life. He always felt a strong connection to nature and the outdoors, but he also had a curious mind and a thirst for adventure. He pursued technical drawing and engineering in school, joined the Special Army Ops for a few years, and then embarked on a seven-year hitchhiking odyssey across Europe. Along the way, he learned different languages and cultures, and experienced the diversity of life.
However, he had not yet found his true passion. That changed when he moved to Germany in 2004 and bought his first DSLR camera—a Canon 350D. At first, it was just a hobby, a way to capture the beauty of his surroundings. But when he relocated to Norway two years later, he realised that photography was more than that. It was a way to express himself, to share his vision, to tell stories. He decided to make photography his career in 2012.
Since then, Robert has been living his dream. He spends his mornings working on his projects, editing photos, and sending emails. He reserves his afternoons for the outdoors, where he enjoys various activities such as skydiving, paragliding, rock climbing, mountain biking, and skiing. And of course, he always brings his camera and drone with him, ready to capture the stunning scenery of Lofoten and Vesterålen. He loves the freedom and flexibility of his work.
His motto is “life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. He believes that stepping out of your comfort zone is the only way to grow and learn. He has faced many challenges and risks in his life, including surviving an avalanche in Norway in 2012. But he has also reaped many rewards and achievements. He has won many awards for his work, including the prestigious ‘Nordic Mesterskap’ in 2014. He has published his photos both in Norway and internationally. He has worked with big-name brands and exciting projects.
His photography style is constantly evolving. He likes to experiment with different techniques, edits, and moods. He says that many factors influence his style, such as his mood, the weather, current trends, and the country he is shooting in. Sometimes he prefers bright photos with strong contrast and saturated colours; other times he opts for darker, moody, slightly desaturated edits.
He does not have a single favourite image; he has many favourites. And each one of them has a special meaning for him. They remind him of the moments when he took them, the emotions he felt, the stories he wanted to tell.
Recovering from the pandemic is Robert’s current challenge. It affected his business and travel plans. But he is optimistic and determined. He has already secured some upcoming projects with big-name brands—but he cannot reveal any details yet.
His advice for aspiring photographers is to never give up on your dreams. To keep trying, failing, learning, and improving. To believe in yourself and your vision.
“Never give up”, Robert says. “If you believe you are going to make it, you will.”
