Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?
A: I grew up on an island called Askøy, near Bergen. Now I live in Tananger, in Sola municipality.
Q: What is your current job?
A: I work as a consultant for project and risk management, mainly in the oil and gas industry.
Q: As a photographer, what are your aspirations?
A: I would like to sell more of my photos, so that more people can enjoy them on their walls.
Q: What do you love about Rogaland?
A: I love the diversity of Rogaland. It has everything from fjords to beaches, from farmland to city life. And it has the wild ocean, with its wind and waves coming from the North Sea. It’s a great place for photography.
Q: Where is your favourite place in the region? What makes it your favourite?
A: It’s hard to choose one place, but I think Sele beach is one of my favourites. It has beautiful landscapes, and you can photograph anything from the Milky Way to surfers. It’s always different and exciting.
Q: How did your interest in photography start? What type of photography gives you the most joy?
A: I started with filming and video editing, then I got into time-lapse photography and videos. But then I realised that it was too time-consuming, so I focused more on photography. My favourite type of photography is landscape. I love hiking to beautiful places and finding the right composition for my style. I always look for the best light to make my photos stand out, whether it’s portraits or landscapes.
Q: What kind of gear do you use? Do you have a favourite lens?
A: I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with two lenses: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4-5.6L USM and Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II USM. They both have their advantages, but my favourite is the 16-35mm. It’s perfect for landscape and night-photography, and it allows me to include nice foreground elements in my photos.
Q: If you could photograph any person or place, who or what would you choose and why?
A: I would love to photograph Iceland, because it’s a spectacular place with diverse and raw landscapes. It has beautiful colors in the summer, and icy scenery under the Northern Lights in the winter.
Q: Out of all the places you’ve visited, which was your favourite?
A: The hike to Molden, along the Lustrafjord, in Sogn and Fjordane. It’s a stunning hike with an amazing view down to the fjord below. It’s a hike I would recommend to anyone who likes nature.
Q: Is there a place you dream of visiting?
A: A dream destination of mine besides Iceland is Lofoten. It’s also a place with mountains rising from the sea, which is my favourite scenery.
Q: When did you feel you were most out of your comfort zone? What did you learn from that experience?
A: I photographed a wedding for some friends. It was quite different from my normal photography, and I felt a lot of pressure to deliver good photos. I was worried about changing lenses quickly (I only have one camera) to capture the right moments. But it turned out ok in the end. I learned a lot about wedding photography, and also that stress can help you plan better and focus more.
Q: If you could have dinner with one person, past or present, who would it be? Why?
A: Jim Carrey, because he’s hilarious and most of the movie quotes I use are from him. It would be a fun dinner.
Q: Is there anything you would say to your former self?
A: Buy a DSLR today!
